At Advent Small Creatures

At Advent small creatures

Seek refuge in our house.

Open a door, and a fly zooms in,

Searching for a dark corner

Where it can spend the winter.

Open a window, and a spider dashes in,

Eight-footing it toward the nearest crack.

“Safe at last! Safe at last!”

“Who invited you?”  I ask.

“Can’t you see we have no room

For uninvited guests?”

No room?

Remembering a baby in a manger,

I change my mind.

We’ll have find a way to live in peace together,

At least until Epiphany.
